The initiative has now raised over £1.9m for disadvantaged children across the UK.
Argos has provided some of the UK’s most disadvantaged children with over £660,000 worth of children’s toys.
In the third year of the Argos Toy Exchange Christmas Gift to Barnardo’s, the retailer has brought the total donated to the children’s charity to over £1.9 million.
During the eight-week Argos Toy Exchange campaign – which ran throughout October and November 2014 – donations to Barnardo’s rose by over 55,000 bags.
“This is the third year of the partnership and we are delighted that the Argos Toy Exchange has again proved such a success, particularly in a challenging economic climate,” said Barnardo’s director of retail and trading, Gerard Cousins.
“The donations we received ahead of the busy Christmas period gave a substantial boost to our stock and provided a real festive bonus to those in need.”
The profits made from selling the toys via the Barnardo’s stores are put in to the charity’s work with vulnerable and disadvantaged children around the UK.
“Donations are absolutely essential to keep our stores trading,” added Cousins. “So, a huge thank you to everyone who has taken part.”
Amy Whidburn, head of corporate responsibility for Argos, added: “As a family retailer, we are delighted that the money raised is going to help support some of Barnardo’s vital causes such as early years developmentand vocational skills training.
“We know how much of an impact this will make to disadvantaged families and would like to thank our customers for their generosity in raising over £1.9 million over the last three years.”
The exchange encouraged Argos customers to donate their pre-loved toys at stores across the UK, to be sold through Barnardo’s to raise money to benefit disadvantaged kids.
Those making donations were rewarded with a voucher offering £5 off a £35 spend on toys at Argos.
