Hammerson acquire Birmingham Grand Central
Shopping centre giant Hammerson has bought Birmingham’s Grand Central Station in a deal worth £335 million. The new shopping centre opened in September last year as part of the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street Station, the UK’s busiest outside of London. Since then it has gained significant interest both within the city and further afield. The development has brought a range of new shops to the city including the White Company and Cath Kidston and has John Lewis as its anchor.
Hammerson whose portfolio already includes the Birmingham Bullring are seeking to expand their offering in the UKs second city. The West Midlands is currently experiencing the highest growth of disposable income in the UK and Grand Central drew an average of 62,000 people per day in its first three months of opening.
