Kantar Worldpanel posts good news for Tesco and the Co-op

Access Point shoppingKantar Worldpanel has posted some more good news for the Co-op following their rebrand with a 3.3% growth in sales for the second period in a row. It also showed a small rise in market share, up 0.2%. Results showed that despite a focus on convenience and the top-up shop, Co-op consumer spend also remains above the discounters Lidl and Aldi.

Tesco also had good news with figures showing they had the smallest drop in sales of the big four at just 1%. Edward Garner, director at Kantar Worldpanel, said: “What’s clear is that consumers aren’t flocking away from their stores – their combined shopper numbers have dropped only 0.2% in the latest 12 weeks. In fact, 94% of Aldi and Lidl shoppers still visit at least one of the four major retailers every four weeks.”
