Access Point Appoint First Non-Executive Director

It’s the next phase in our plan to take Access Point further than ever.  Our MD, David Robertshaw had this to say on the announcement:


“It’s been a great few years at Access Point; we’ve had 20% year-on-year growth, moved into new offices, improving our working environment and just making it a fantastic place to work. Never wanting to rest on our laurels we have been looking at other ways of making things better and wanted to get somebody on board who could offer something different, to help us with our next stage of growth.


We decided to go out and recruit a non-executive director for our Board, somebody with retail experience and who has been involved in growth of small to medium sized companies in the past. We had over 30 initial enquiries to this position from very successful people who have been at the top of their respective professions – it was very difficult to pull up a short-list!


However Mike really impressed with his retail knowledge, contacts and outlook on life – he’d even chosen which avatar most resembled himself! We’ve already indoctrinated him to the great northern tradition of a pie and a pint for lunch (this is an open offer for any customer or retailer) although I can’t say I’m looking forward to the reciprocal arrangement when I’m down in London next… jellied eels ugh!


I can tell we’re not only going to have great fun over the next few years but with Mike’s help, contacts and experience, continue our fantastic journey.”



Graduating from Exeter University with a BA in Archaeology, Mike initially pursued a career in the banking sector becoming a fellow of the chartered institute of financial services. But it was in HR that he found his vocation, working in several high profile positions as HR Director, of Thomas Cook, Boots, and B&Q. Mike went independent 6 years ago and now shares his time between coaching, consulting and Non-executive director roles. Mike is an experienced NED and Access Point will be his 5th appointment. In 2014, he helped the old Group Board of The Co-op redesign the governance structures following the much-publicised failings at Group Board level and in the Bank. Mike has been a regular feature in the HR world's lists of most influential players and has won many industry awards for excellence and innovation in HR.


He’s been spending his recent visits speaking to the whole team from sales support to management, finding out what makes us, us. He’s already been impressed by our energetic and customer focussed attitude. His role as NED will be firstly to analyse where Access Point is as a company before making recommendations for the future, he’s keeping tight lipped on what they may be for the time being, but with a wealth of experience across industries, all Access Point’s staff and clients will be keen to hear what he comes up with.
