'Poundland & More' Poundland launches new multi-price trial stores.
Discount retailer Poundland has unveiled the new concept as Poundland & More, with the first store now open in Slough, Berkshire.
Following news last year that Poundland would trial a multi-price fascia in the UK, the new look store in Slough and the remaining five that will open this month, were all larger 99p Stores units. Located in Gillingham, Ilkeston, Kings Heath, Norwich and Dudley, the trial stores are notably larger than Poundland's main estate stores, with the sites allowing the discounter to evolve beyond its core £1 price point.
The new fascia carries the tagline ‘Everything you expect from Poundland… and more’.
The majority of products however will retail at less than £10. Trolleys outside the store and wide aisles will allow shoppers to fulfil a larger shop more comfortably than in a standard Poundland store, where often there is no car park so shoppers may be limited to a smaller basket.
New categories and services
While Poundland & More offers shoppers the entire Poundland range, the store size has allowed the discounter to add new categories and services, adding significant wider scope and flexible pricing model. These include, beers, wines and spirits, frozen food, tobacco, QuickPay and National Lottery, the majority of which are at round pound prices, reflecting the core value proposition.
Giving shoppers access to more categories and products will allow the discounter to be more competitive in the variety discount segment.
Outgoing Poundland boss Jim McCarthy said: “We expect the categories that we are famous for – homewares, baking, seasonal ranges like gardening and toys, to name a few, to transfer very well into Poundland & More and we look forward to launching these new trial stores to customers.”
